Max Mosley, ex-presidente da Federação Internacional do Automóvel e co-fundador da March, perdeu esta segunda-feira a vida aos 81 anos.
O britânico, que chegou a competir em algumas corridas da Fórmula 2, rapidamente deixou o volante para fundar a March Engineering, equipa pela qual passaram pilotos como Niki Lauda, Ronnie Peterson e Chris Amon.
No entanto, o percurso de Mosley no desporto motorizado fez-se sobretudo na vertente política, uma vez que abandonou a March para se juntar à Associação dos Construtores da Fórmula 1, cargo que antecederia a sua entrada na Federação Internacional do Automóvel.
Durante os seus três mandatos no órgão governativo do desporto motorizado mundial, Mosley trabalhou ativamente na área de segurança, principalmente após o fatídico Grande Prémio de São Marino de 1994.
No entanto, o seu importante contributo para tornar os monolugares mais seguros – através da redução do desempenho, da melhoria dos crash tests e de dispositivos como o Hans – não foi o único destaque do período em que liderou os destinos da FIA, já que os seus mandatos ficaram também marcados por algumas situações controversas, como o envolvimento no processo ‘Spygate’, onde tomou uma posição dura contra a McLaren.
